Kendrick was initially slotted as a backup for Chiefs safety

but when star strong safety

suffered a season ending injury in the second game of the 2011 Chiefs
season, Kendrick Lewis was upgraded to starting free safety with Jon
McGraw moving over to starting strong safety.
