Position - Offensive Line (Guard) Height - 6'2 Weight - 290 Born - 1981 Number - 65 College - Kansas State Ryan Lilja is the classic "home town hero returns" story. Having grown up right here in Kansas City, Ryan attended Shawnee Mission Northwest High School where he played golf and football. Lilja then went to Coffeyville Community College for 2 years before heading to Manhattan to attend Kansas State University where he played 2 years and started 14 out of 23 games. While the Chiefs were under the wise direction of head coach Dick Vermeil, they signed Ryan Lilja to their practice squad. After a very high recommendation from Coach Vermeil, The Indianapolis Colts signed Ryan Lilja on September 6th, 2004. After a Super Bowl win in 2007, the Colts resigned Lilja to a lucrative 20 million dollar 5 year contract in 2008, but Ryan was hampered with a knee injury for much of the season. The Colts struggled badly with their running game in 2009 and decided to release Lilja and many of their other lineman for a larger front 5. This move did not prove to be a successful one for the Colts who were a complete disgrace of a team in 2010. The announcers of the Colts games repeatedly mentioned the absence of Lilja as one of the reasons for their poor performance. The Chiefs signed Lilja on March 16th, 2010. It was a welcome homecoming for both Ryan Lilja and the Kansas City Chiefs fans as Lilja brought with him the experience of winning the Super Bowl and playing in a total of 2 Super Bowls. Lilja immediately bonded with Casey Wiegmann and led the Chiefs to a spectacular running game in 2010. Ryan Lilja officially retired in 2013. On August 1st, 2013, Ryan Lilja came out of retirement to join forces with his old teammate Peyton Manning with the Denver Broncos.
